   It depends. There are three types of alopecia: areata, universalis, and totalis.Totalis you lose all your body hair. Universalis you lose your hair from your head & face. Areata you lose your head hair in patches. Alopecia is an auto immune disease where your white blood cells attack the roots of your hair and kill it.. It’s like being "allergic" to your hair. Her hair MAY grow back. It depends. it is not contagious and does not affect her health in any way. I have a friends whose sister has it. A lot of people don’t know about this auto-immune disease. Please tell people not to make fun of people with this condition. It is NOT cancer. never try to pity your friend either. Please be a supportive friend. BTW we don’t know what causes Alopecia, but it could be stress, pressure, or rosiola virus. Her hair may come back, but for now don’t count on it. Don’t judge her. Hope this helps.    No, it’s a permanent condition. Just really be there for your friend because they will need your friendship. I know a girl that has alopecia and she is the most outgoing girl ever. She even cheers for UCA (Universal Cheerleading Association). Just offer all the support you can.

   Check out the photosin the website below. If its similar then it can be temporary or turn to be permenant and even spread to other areas on her body.

   My bro found a website called http://www.alopecia-areata-cure.com when he had this condition. Its very informative.

   You might wanna ask her to check it out.
