Hair Loss Due To Disease Archives

I don’t have any bald spots or anything but I’ve been losing a LOT of hair lately, probably from combination stress and thyroid disease. I’ve just noticed that it falls out in massive proportions and it’s thinned out quite a bit. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good hair restoration products that really work. Please let me know of your experiences and recommendations. All answers are greatly appreciated.

Zooey plays a disturbed young daughter of a football coach who befriends this boy with the hair loss disease. What is the name of this movie?

it start small pimples (acnes) in your hair then it left white spot in your head with no hair.
What the name of that disease?

I have had an underactive thyroid for about 5 years now and it has for the past 4 and a half years been regualted. But 6 months ago, my hair started falling out in clumps among other things. Just last week I finally found out I have anti-bodies that are killing my thyroid (causing the Hashimoto’s) so my synthroid has been increased. I am wondering if anyone know’s how long your thyroid has to be regualted again before my hair stops falling out?

I have shoulder lenght hair and I am a guy but I am thinking about growing for 1-2 more years and cutting it so it can be donated. I want to keep atleast 2-3 inches on my head but I was wondering how long hair has to be so it could be used to make wigs for kids with hair loss diseases? Please and thank you.

I suffered from Alopecia Areata, a hair loss disease, as a child. I’m 15 now and it’s been about 10 years since I had this. Everyone thought I grew out of it because my hair is long and thick now. Well lately I’ve been losing hair in the shower and when I brush my hair. This morning I lost a chunk of hair and now have a bald spot that took me an hour to cover.
My question is, can Alopecia Areata come back?

Hello!

Just a quick summary of myself. I’m 20 years old, 6′ 1" 170 pounds. I’m very fit for my age and height, and I exercise daily and always eat a healthy diet. My family has never had a history of MPB, and none of my siblings or cousins my age show any signs of balding.

I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in January 2008. I was sick before that for about 6 months, before realizing that I was literally withering away, and it wasn’t going to get better on it’s own. After I was diagnosed, I was given a 60mg a day dose of Prednisone and a 2400mg a day dose of Asacol. The Asacol stayed the same for the next 9 months, and the Prednisone tapered off gradually to 5mg a day by 9 months. In December 2008, I completely stopped taking both my Prednisone and Asacol, and was relieved to hear that my Crohn’s was in remission. During the 9 month period, I suffered the usual symptoms of Prednisone (Moon face, weight gain, fatigue, joint pain, etc.) I was also losing hair a little at a time.

About a month after stopping the regiment, around January 2009, I started losing my hair in the front. For the first few months, it was coming out rather quickly and in large amounts. It was also thinning very badly. It started getting progressively better over the next 6 months, but it didn’t stop completely. By December 2009, I have lost a decent amount of hair on the front of my scalp, and it’s a little discouraging for my self image. Whenever I lose hair, it’s usually shorter follicles, an inch in length, compared to my 2-3 inch hair everywhere else. Also, the follicles have a white head on the end sometimes, which I am told is the root. Uh oh? I have read a ton of testimonials online about people with the same exact problem as me, except that they had their hair growing back within 3-5 months of being off of Prednisone. I’ve been off for over a year, and am starting to barely notice positive results, if there are even any positive results. I’m usually too optimistic about things!

After deciding that I wanted my hair back, and I need to combat this every way possible, I started to do the following;
-Taking biotin supplement pills
-Eating extremely healthy and drinking plenty of water
-Washing my hair once a week with some natural shampoo I found at a health store
-Messaging oils in to my scalp once a week, and messaging my scalp a few times a day

I guess my question is;

Will my hair ever grow back, to be the same thick, healthy hair it was before the Prednisone? Or is there something that I’m missing?

I am only 17 years old and in the last few months i seem to have lost an awful amount of hair. I have graves disease, and i have been told that that contributes to hair loss, but when i talked to my doctor he didn’t think that was the problem. He instead told me that my iron was low, thus causing it. But even taking iron pills for several weeks, it hasn’t stopped. So i am at a loss at what i should try now. I will continue with the pills, in case they haven’t taken effect yet, but is there any other things that could be contributing to this? any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Well ive been having skin problems and I have an doc appt next month. What could it be. My hair gets really itchy and my skin to! And my hair is falling out in big clumps. What should I do? What could it be? Allergic to something im eating maybe?

My mother-in-law smoke cigarettes and shes becoming bald. She doesn’t want to get a check up but can it be a sign of cancer/disease?

I have a friend (female) who has lost all of her hair – eyelashes, eyebrows, head hair, leg hair – you name it, it’s gone. She told me the name of the disease (?) that caused it, but I can’t remember. Anyone know?

I have had an underactive thyroid for about 13 years. I’am now 25 and my thyroid dosage was just increased a little over a month ago because I now have type 1 diabetes and high cholestorol. For about the past week my hair has been falling out in clumps. I read the side effects and it said hair loss within the first few months. But does anyone know how long it usually lasts?

just wondering cuz i have all the symptoms of crohns disease and now im losing my hair. is this related?
I AM ON NO MEDICATION.

So I’m wondering if I have Hodgkin’s and have to get chemo, will my hair fall out? I’ve heard of some people having cancer and having chemo but their hair not falling out.
Does anyone know?

Thanks! =)

I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Disease, my antiboties were over 600. Anyway my hair has been shedding since the end of July. It comes out with the follicle attached. I have or at least had very thick hair so to someone who did not know me they would not know it was falling out. Anyway after test after test I got this diagnoses and the endocrinoligist said that my "levels" were still in range. I have been experiencing severe fatigue, hair loss, weight gain, and depression and was devestated to hear that I was "normal". He finially put me on the generic synthriod at the lost dose, 25, I think more to shut me up than to help. How long does it take before I will notice a difference regarding my mood and hair?
My endocrinoligist said that I was symptomatic but that my lab work did not reflect any problems with my hormone production.
I just got diagnosed. As far as the tender head, I have it. It feels like I have had my hair in a pony tail forever. My dose is very low and I have been on it for about two weeks, only minor improvements in fatigue.

Hey guys, I’ve had crohn’s disease for about a year now and my hair has been slowly thinning. After talking the doc he said it was most likely ur body isnt getting enough nutrients… My question is that will taking biotin help me get thicker hair..i just started taking it..i take a 2500 mcg pill along with an average multi-vitamin every morning..is 2500 mcg enough, or should i up it to 5000 until i see results..any hellp or other tips would be greatly appreciated!! THANKS!!

I have recently been diagnosed with Crohn’s Diesease and I’m still finding the right medications. I have slowly come off Steroids and have upped my dosage on mercaptopurine tablets (also known as 6-MP). I have noticed that my hair is starting to fall out alot more (than what is usually natural for me). Does anyone know if my hair loss could be assoicated with Crohn’s Disease or the medication I’m on? Thanks.

how do they get it

In two years I had a ridiclous amount of hair, and I mean ALOT of thick hair, but now my hair is just about gone. I still have hair but the are super thin and fall out like crazy. I was wondering if its possible that something else is going on.

Thyroxine, the medication, is a case of the cure being worse than the disease. It makes me feel horrible, and the doctor just tells me ‘to continue taking the medication’.
