has anyone noticed your hair thinning after drinking a lot of alcohol on a regular basis. my hair used to be really thick and i think it may be from drinking all of the time. no genetic history of hair thinning or female pattern baldness, etc. thyroid is fine. not on medications.

thanks for any help.

Hi all, my doctor diagnosed me with male-pattern baldness. However, I’ve been on Propecia for almost 2 months and the hair loss has only increased. Its so bad that when i run my fingers through my hair, I have hair with roots between my fingers. Is this normal for male-pattern baldness or is my doctor wrong in his diagnosis. Furthermore, I got my thyroid tested and the results are within the range, with a TSH of 3.6.

Can someone help me out?

also, does the US have the most documented cases of thyroid disease? i know ppl around the world, and i don’t really see the hair thinning like i do here. maybe it’s all the medications. thanks

My female (spayed) Pom had a beautiful coat when I bought her from a breeder, but at about age 1 1/2 years, she began to lose coat; first on back of legs, sides, then chest, back and tail. Skin turned black and leathery, except on chest, where skin remained white. Tests for Cushings and Thyroid were negative. Now she is age 9 and growing hair. Only change is that I’m now feeding her Royal Canin Shh Tsu food. Amazing!

I’ve always had a small amount of hair loss. I’ve had dozens of tests since I was a child but no definitive answer. I’ve been diagnosed with a thyroid disease for the last ten years and now my hair loss is worse even with thyroid supplements. Now my daughter, who is almost ten, is also experiencing some hair loss. Her hair is thick and long, though. Mine used to be but has now thinned to where I hate it and no hair cut looks good. Any comments, ideas, similar stories?

My Dr. prescribed it for me today as well as a thyroid panel…I guess I’m not making the connection, how would spironolactone help me not lose hair?

5 years back i used to have long and very dense hair? Due to thyroid and anemia i had huge hair loss. Can i get back my hair? What care i need to take?

what do you think is the best brand of thyroid medication–no ‘health/herb’ treatments please. My case is too severe for that.

I don’t have any bald spots or anything but I’ve been losing a LOT of hair lately, probably from combination stress and thyroid disease. I’ve just noticed that it falls out in massive proportions and it’s thinned out quite a bit. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good hair restoration products that really work. Please let me know of your experiences and recommendations. All answers are greatly appreciated.

I have had an underactive thyroid for about 5 years now and it has for the past 4 and a half years been regualted. But 6 months ago, my hair started falling out in clumps among other things. Just last week I finally found out I have anti-bodies that are killing my thyroid (causing the Hashimoto’s) so my synthroid has been increased. I am wondering if anyone know’s how long your thyroid has to be regualted again before my hair stops falling out?

I was wondering how long it takes for your hair to stop breaking/falling out – due to nutritional deficiencies. I have a very Low serum iron count (I am on suppliments) and I don’t really eat protein – and its finally caught up to me. How long after taking suppliments and eating well does the hair loss/breakage stop ???

For those who will ask. Thyroid, Hormones etc are fine. It is nutritional :)

I have had an underactive thyroid for about 13 years. I’am now 25 and my thyroid dosage was just increased a little over a month ago because I now have type 1 diabetes and high cholestorol. For about the past week my hair has been falling out in clumps. I read the side effects and it said hair loss within the first few months. But does anyone know how long it usually lasts?

I am the only person in my family with this disease and the hormons tests are o.k but I have many simptoms for thyroid disease.
Have you any advice?
Thanks.

My dog is almost 3 years old and has all the symptoms of color dilution alopecia but she is a black and tan not a blue or fawn. Can she have it?
She has been to the vet. No mange and the vet doesn’t think its thyroid based on her appearance. She does have a tan/brown undercoat over most of her body that is only supposed to be allowed around the neck area.
